Are you on the verge of quitting it all because it seems like everything has gone out of control? Do you feel like you are a failure for not being able to successfully carry out your plans? It may seem like you have done everything you could but your best was not good enough—so should you just give up?

Disappointments have the power to cripple the self-esteem and kill the passion to pursue dreams. They usually happen when you are not able to meet people’s expectations or things do not go your way. Things could get hard and messed up—and you lose the desire to go on.

However, you need to understand that giving up is not the solution to failures and difficulties. Once you quit, you would be drowning in regrets someday. For this reason, you need to strengthen your will and decide to never give up no matter how hard things get in achieving your goals.

Use these 15 ways to stop yourself from giving up:

1. Remind yourself of your goals and why you need to achieve them.
To bring back your motivation, remind yourself of the dreams you want to reach. Think about the reasons why you have wanted them in the first place. Ask yourself if you are ready to let go of those goals.

2. Remember the people who serve as your inspiration.
Remembering your inspirations in life—your loved ones—will encourage you to press on. If you give up, then you will not be able to fulfill your dreams for them. Do you want to happen?

3. Think about the sacrifices you have made to reach this far.
If you quit now, then all your sacrifices in the past just to reach this level will go to waste. It would be more frustrating when you realize that it cost you so much to fight for your dream only to be thrown away.

4. Recall the past challenges that you were able to overcome.
Another way to encourage yourself to keep going is by remembering how you were able to overcome past difficulties. If you were able to get past them, then you can also do it this time. You just need to keep fighting.

5. Tell yourself that you are not a quitter.
You will never be a winner if you are a quitter. If you believe you were born to be a winner, then keep in your mind that it is not in your nature to quit just because you seem to be losing the battle at the moment.

6. Share your burden with someone who can encourage you.
You need to release the weight of your discouragement from your chest. For this reason, open up to someone whom you can lean on while you are struggling to remain standing. Choose a person or people whom you trust and you know are capable of encouraging you.

7. Condition your mind that nothing precious comes easy.
Do you know why diamonds are too expensive? It is because they do not just grow from trees, but rather, they need to be dug out of the deepest of the earth. Therefore, if you think of your dreams as precious gems—like diamonds—then do not be surprised why you need to go through so much ‘digging’ just to have them.

8. Understand that problems are a part of life.
Understanding that hardships are normal while you are alive will make you bear with them more positively. Even if you quit now just to escape the current difficulties, there will be more problems coming your way in the future. Do you really want to develop a habit of quitting?

9. Inspire yourself by watching/reading true success stories.
Revive your passion by exposing yourself to success stories. You will see that hard times and failures are always part of the journey towards success.

10. Take a break for a while.
If you feel tired, then take a rest—but never quit. It is alright to take a break from what gives you stress and discouragements. You can take a vacation and go somewhere you can relax and enjoy. Then, once you are back to your real self, pick up from where you have left.

11. Find out what you can do better to improve the situation.
Instead of sulking in a corner and waiting for the problems to go away, look for solutions to make things better. If you need help, then do not hesitate to approach the right people who can help you. You may not be able to completely solve the issue, but at least you are doing something to fix it.

12. Just laugh it off.
Another way to shake off anxiety and frustration is by laughing at the circumstances. Not that you do not take them seriously, but laughter has the power to lighten the burden and brighten the mood.

13. Surround yourself with optimistic people.
Keep yourself surrounded by people who do not know how to give up. Their positive outlook in life will encourage you to be optimistic about your situation as well. You may also learn stress-coping mechanisms from them.

14. Read the Bible for encouragement.
The Bible has a lot of promises and comforting passages that can strengthen your soul. Reading it regularly and applying what you learn from it will make you wiser in making decisions, especially whenever you are confused and emotionally down.

15. Pray and ask God for a stronger faith.
Partner Bible reading with prayer and you will have a stronger faith system. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Having a strong faith will make you more enduring because you focus—with hope—on what you cannot see yet.

Keep Moving

Do not let disappointments and discouragements stop you from pursuing your dreams. No matter how hard things get along the way, just keep moving forward. Once you have reached your destination, you will see that it is all worth it.
