Laziness is among the top enemies of employees and students. There are many people who are actually intelligent and have the capacity to get what they want. However, because they lack hard work, they fail to accomplish their goals and end up unsuccessful all their lives.

Probably, you are among the people who are struggling with laziness—and you want to get rid of it from your system already. The good news is there are a lot of ways to overcome this culprit. Do you want to know how? Check these 18 ways to overcome laziness and be more productive.

1. Do regular exercise.
A 30 to 45-minute exercise daily can help you become more energetic each day. Exercise will not only help you lose weight but it can also improve your blood circulation, increasing the oxygen level in your brain (resulting in being more awake), and releasing the happy hormones in your body. This means that this will make you more enthusiastic to work and be productive.

2. Get enough sleep.
Lack of sleep can often cause you to be too tired to function effectively. This is one of the reasons why some people do not like moving around and performing their tasks. If you feel lazy always, then maybe you have to check whether you are getting enough sleep or not.

3. Take care of your health.
Sometimes, the spirit is willing but the body is weak. No matter how determined you are to work hard if you are physically unwell, then there is a tendency for your body to give up immediately. For this reason, you need to take care of yourself so you will not be sickly or unfit to work.

4. Love what you do.
If you are passionate about your career, then you will be more motivated to constantly give your best to it. If you are motivated to do something, no amount of laziness can defeat your will to finish what you are doing with excellence. Therefore, start by loving or at least being grateful for your job or studies.

5. Discipline your mind.
It is all in your head. Set your mind to accomplish certain goals each day, and train it to be focused. This may take time, but as you consistently drive your mind to work in a quick pace and avoid lingering around, then being attentive to your tasks for the day will be natural someday.

6. Set a weekly timetable.
Another way to push yourself to be fruitful each day is by establishing a weekly timetable. This should be a program containing all your regular, expected activities for the entire week plotted according to their schedules. Of course, this will only be effective if you challenge yourself to follow all its agenda.

7. Challenge yourself to accomplish as much as possible in a day.
Try doing this by creating a to-do list for each day. Then, make a deal with yourself that if you can complete or finish all the listed tasks, then you can have a reward—like a shopping spree or eating all you can after work.

8. Overcome procrastination.
One way to do this is by preventing yourself from daydreaming or overthinking during work hours. You should also set rules like no social media or television until you finish your tasks. Be focused on accomplishing your goals for the day and avoid distractions like you are in a competition.

9. Be a good steward of the opportunities entrusted to you.
They say opportunities knock only once so you better not waste whatever opportunity you have grabbed. So, your job, studies, business, or any position you have now is a privilege you should not lose. Be a responsible steward by always working with diligence and passion.

10. Be motivated.
Have you ever noticed that most hardworking people are family-oriented ones? It is because they are usually motivated by their desire to provide a good future for their families. So, if you want to be diligent then you have to remind yourself why or for whom you are working hard.

11. Set goals and aim high.
Setting goals and dreaming big dreams can motivate you to persevere. If you are serious about achieving them, then you will do whatever it takes to get them. This includes working with all your heart and strength.

12. Be inspired by successful people.
Knowing the success stories behind big-time celebrities or professionals can also inspire you to work hard to get closer to your dreams. Many of these successful individuals have come from poverty but their hard work has put them at the top.

13. Condition your mind with the consequences of laziness.
If you want to keep yourself away from laziness, then you should be exposed to its fruits. You can re-visit stories of poverty caused by irresponsibility. In case your family is struggling financially, you may tell yourself that you could not help them if you do not work hard.

14. Focus on one thing at a time.
Thinking about many tasks or chores all at once will make you cram and frustrated. Self-frustration may dishearten you to work with enthusiasm, leading to laziness. To avoid this from happening and so you can accomplish your tasks faster, it is better if you focus your thoughts on one thing at a time.

15. Strive to be a good example for the people you love.
If you have kids or younger siblings, you do not want them to be lazy, right? That is why you must not be lazy too. You should be a role model to them in terms of hard work so that they will be diligent in their studies or jobs too.

16. Value the sacrifices of those who care for you.
If your parents or other family members have been supporting you to finish your studies, land a job, or in any other helpful way, then you should be more inspired to work hard. Every time you are tempted to lay in your bed the whole day, think about the sacrifices they have done just to help you.

17. Set no-leisure-before-output rule.
Another way to discipline yourself is by setting a rule that you cannot go out with your friends and have fun until you have finished your tasks for a certain period. You can ask someone, like your friend or colleague, to be your accountability partner so you cannot cheat.

18. Live your life as a living sacrifice to God.
Romans 12:1 says, “So, then, my friends, because of God’s great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.” (GNT).

The best way to worship God is through dedicating everything you do to Him. That means if you want to honor God with your life, you will work hard and give your best at all times—because He deserves the best.
