What does it mean to be good? The dictionary defines goodness as “the quality or state of being good.” But what does that really mean?
There are many ways to think about goodness. One way is to think about what is valuable or important in life. What do you value most highly? What do you think is most worth pursuing? These things can be different for different people.
Another way to think about goodness is in terms of how we treat other people. Are we kind and compassionate? Do we act with integrity and honesty? Do we try to help others, even if it means making sacrifices ourselves? Again, these things can be different for different people.
The Bible has a lot to say about goodness. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for “good” is often used to describe something that is pleasing to God or in accordance with His will. In the New Testament, the Greek word for “good” is often used to describe things that are morally excellent or virtuous.
Goodness is a core quality of God. It’s who He is. His very nature is good. And because He is good, He wants what’s best for us.
God’s goodness means that He is kind, merciful, and just. He is always looking out for our best interests. And because He loves us, His goodness leads Him to forgive us when we sin.
When we live in accordance with His goodness, we experience His blessings in our lives. We are able to enjoy His presence and find true fulfillment in life. Goodness leads to life abundant!

So what does it mean to be good? It means different things to different people. But ultimately, it means living a life that is pleasing to God and in accordance with His will.
