What is Love According to the Bible?

According to the verses in the Bible:

1. Love is patient, kind, content, and humble.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4 NIV

2. Love is respectful, selfless, calm, and forgiving.
“It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” – 1 Corinthians 13:5 NIV

3. Love does not sin and lie.
“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” – 1 Corinthians 13:6 NIV

4. Love is caring, faithful, hopeful, and persistent.
“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” – 1 Corinthians 13:7 ESV

5. Love is everlasting.
“Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.” – 1 Corinthians 13:8 ESV

6. Love is greater than hope and faith.
“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:13 ESV

7. Love banishes your fear.
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because of fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” – 1 John 4:18 KJV

8. Love is also given to your enemies.
“But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.” – Luke 6:27-28 KJV

9. Love comes from God.
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.” – 1 John 4:7 KJV

10. Love makes a great sacrifice.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16 KJV

11. Love is shown through actions.
“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” – 1 John 3:18 KJV

12. Love for God is given with all your heart, soul, and mind.
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” – Matthew 22:37 KJV

15. Love makes you complete.
“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” – Colossians 3:12-14 NKJV
