Sometimes when we are alone in bed, we may look up at the blank ceiling and ask ourselves a simple question, “What is my life’s purpose?”

It is pretty common for people to think of such existentialist questions. You may even experience that feeling of coming home to your house every night, eat the same food every day, or do the same routines the next day.

It may leave an empty feeling in your heart and make you question if you are really living a life that is worthy. No one knows how to exactly live a worthy life because it is up to you and your definition of worthy, but it never hurts to take some pointers from others!

If you continue reading below, you may discover ten wonderful ways to make your life worth living:

1. Do what you love and love what you do.
You only live once, so might as well live it by doing something that you love! There are times when people find themselves in jobs they do not like and certainly did not pick. If you are in a situation like that right now, then it may be best for you to seek elsewhere.

Working in an unfulfilling job is unhealthy and can lead to severe depression. Do not be afraid of what other people might say, take the risk, work hard, and do what you love!

2. Always strive for happiness.
Happiness is subjective. If dressing in all black makes you happy, do it. If you doing volunteer work makes you happy, go for it. If having three bachelor’s degrees make you happy, work hard to achieve it! The important thing is to always strive for happiness!

Nobody wants to live an unhappy life that is for sure. Although life may not always be sunshine and butterflies, if you always aim for happiness, then you can always find the silver lining in every stormy weather.

3. Take inspiration from the world.
Do not enclose yourself within the borders of your room. See the world outside and take inspiration from it! Being open-minded helps a lot in these situations. If you are open to all sorts of ideas, then there can be more room for knowledge and improvement.

If you can, you may also take a soul-searching trip across other countries and experience many different cultures, meet all sorts of people, and get to know their unique stories. Knowing that there is so much more to the world that you know may even help you reflect on your personal life.

4. Do something that you have always wanted to do.
Another way to make your life worth living is to do something that you have always wanted to do. Every day is a perfect opportunity for you to conquer things that you have never done before! If you always do the same thing every day, then it is bound to lose its meaning, especially if it is something you yourself do not like doing.

Take the step of courage and try it out! It can be as interesting as dyeing your hair purple or attending tap dancing classes. The point of the matter is, you will be able to discover things that you never thought or even dreamed of doing before until now! This can also be a way for you to rediscover yourself because as human beings, we never stop growing.

5. Help others who are in need.
Be a volunteer for an organization, donate your unused clothes, or feed the homeless, these are only three of the many ways that you can do to help others who are in need. The world is full of heroes and you can always be one of them! You need not have superpowers, having a good heart and working hands are all it takes to bring a smile to a person’s face.

Helping others can also be your advocacy in life, or in other words, it is what makes your life more interesting and worth living. This is your life’s purpose.

6. Work with passion.
Whatever it is that you do, do it with ultimate passion, because if you do, then you will never get tired of doing it. Even the simplest act of sweeping the floor can be done with passion.

Remember that each person in this world has his or her own role to play. If you perform your role with passion, then it will not only be fulfilling for you but also for those who are around you and experience the outcomes of your works.

If you are a teacher, then make it your principle to properly educate the future of the nation! Take your job to heart and it will always be fruitful in the end.

7. Do not be afraid to make mistakes.
Be a smart risk-taker! Do not be afraid to make mistakes because we are only human. If you make a mistake, you should move on from it and take it as a lesson.

If you dwell too much on the many mistakes that you have made in the past, then you will be completely hung up about it and may even continue to make the same mistakes again in the future.

You might be stuck in a cycle that never ends, a cycle full of regret and frustration. Allow yourself to be free to make shortcomings. The important thing is that you always know to get back up whenever you fall down.

8. Be the reason that someone smiles today.
Seeing a person smile and knowing that you are the reason behind it, is one of the simplest things in life that make living worthwhile. It can be as simple as calling your parents to tell them how much you love them, giving your niece a lollipop, or even patting your friend on the back when he or she did a great job on his project!

Happiness is infectious so make sure to spread it all around you, from the strangers you meet up to the people you love.

9. Try out different things.
If you never thought of yourself as someone who would go skydiving, then maybe it is the time! Aside from doing things you have always wanted to do, you should also try out things that you never would have thought of doing! Sometimes taking the road less traveled, can be quite surprising yet interesting because you never know where you might end up.

If there is a call waiting for a job in a different place, why don’t you try and take it? Who knows you might even think in the end that you actually like it! Or if there is a food that you would never eat then maybe it’s time to try it out.

Life is not lived until you have tried out the things you don’t want to! Experience is always enriching.

10. Live your life to its fullest potential.
Lastly, you should live your life to its fullest potential. Discover the world and take risks! That is the only way to find out what you want to do to make your life worth living. It may be a cliche, but it is a cliche for the reason that it is true and has worked many times before.

It is up to you to judge the worthiness of how you live your life. You can always settle for what is known and safe, yet sometimes what is safe can also be what is boring.

Human life is meant to be lived, so never waste the opportunity to discover new things, try out different food, and experience unique events so that when you are gray and old, you will be able to look back at your life and truly say that it was all worth it.
