9 Affirmations To Help You Decrease Or Eliminate Worry

Worry has its place. It can help you get up and take action on something. But, when you start to worry over and over again, it becomes a soul-sucker. It keeps you from enjoying the present moment. It keeps you stuck in a state of fear or anxiety more often than not. And you spend your time prophesizing what’s going to happen instead of enjoying what is actually happening or taking action on making things better in the future. If you want to decrease or eliminate worry, the following affirmations can help.

worry affirmations

1. I Let Go Of Things I Cannot Change

This is an affirmation found in the Dissolve Worry and Anxiety subliminal track from Subliminal Guru. It’s an important affirmation if you want to decrease or eliminate worry because it reminds you that there’s no point in worrying about things you have no control over. No matter how much you want things to be different, sometimes things work out in a way that you don’t want. They are beyond your control.

This applies to other people. You can’t change them. They are going to make the decisions they make going forward. All you can do is be a good friend, role model, person to lean on, etc. But, worrying about them doesn’t do anything for them or for you.

Remember to take action on what you can control and let go of all the things that you can’t change.

2. I Claim My Freedom From Worry

Do you value your freedom? Well, if you worry often, then you are not very free. You are being held hostage by your fears and anxieties. They are keeping you from being who you want to be and, most of all, they are keeping you from enjoying this moment.

Want to be free? Affirm to yourself that you claim your freedom from worry. Affirm that you will not longer let worry hold you down or back. Affirm that you will no longer let worry dictate how your life will go.

3. I Am Not A Fortune Teller

When you worry, you tell yourself things that you think are true.

  • I will probably get sick.
  • I will probably lose everything!
  • I will scare that person away.

We act like we are fortune tellers when we worry as if we know how the future is going to turn out.

Are you a fortune teller? Do you know, without a doubt, what’s going to happen in the future?

If not, let that sink in. You can’t know what’s going to happen. You can guess (worry). But guessing doesn’t equate to reality.

How many times have you made a guess that turned out wrong?

You are not a fortune teller so stop trying to act like one with your worrying. When you catch yourself worrying, don’t label at as fact. Label it as ‘thoughts geared towards worry’ and then decide to change your thoughts.

4. I Live For Today

Listen, all you got to worry about is getting through today. That’s all you got to worry about. Live each day to the fullest. – Ozzy Osbourne talking to Sharon Osbourne.

This is such good advice from Ozzy Osbourne. All you have to worry about is getting through the day. And, by living each day to the fullest, you are going to drastically reduce if not eliminate a ton of your worry!

5. I Avoid Creating More Problems

You got to stop worrying. You’re creating more problems than there is. – Ozzy Osbourne talking to Sharon Osbourne.

Another quote from Ozzy Osbourne that makes so much sense when it comes to worrying.

By worrying, you are creating more problems than there would be if you would just chill out and take it day by day, moment by moment.

6. I Can Always Handle What Comes

Often, we worry about things and imagine ourselves falling apart and crumbling at the seams. But that doesn’t usually happen.

Up until this point, have you been able to handle what comes in your life? Have you been able to keep going despite what happens?

I’m willing to bet you have. You may have been knocked down a bit by it. You may have become angrier, more worrisome, or more fearful because of it. But you’ve been able to handle it. And, no matter what happens in the future, you will be able to handle it too.

7. I Don’t Worry About Problems, I Solve Them

Problems are meant to be solved. Worrying doesn’t do anything to solve them. It keeps you stuck.

Imagine if you were stuck on one side of a river and needed to get to the other side. You could worry about it. You could worry about not being able to cross the river or never being able to get to the other side of the river, but that’s not going to get you across the river! In order to get across, you need to find a solution.

Use this affirmation for worry often and you will find yourself starting to feel like someone who tackles problems instead of someone who sits around in a ball biting their fingernails worrying about them.

8. Good Things Are Coming

Instead of worrying, use this affirmation to focus on the good things that are coming to you. And they ARE coming. There are always good things coming.

Get curious about those good things.

Spend time visualizing what those good things could be.

Train your brain to expect good things in your life and not worry about the bad things.

9. I Don’t Make Mountains Out Of Molehills (AKA I Don’t Overreact)

A little cliche, yes, but also an important affirmation to keep you focused on reality.

Small bumps and setbacks are going to happen in your life often. There’s no getting around them. But we don’t need to overreact to them.

We often make things much bigger than they are. We exaggerate how bad something will be or is. We make a bigger deal out of things than we need to.

For instance, if you get pulled over for speeding, you can act one of two ways. You can talk to the officer with respect or you can hyperventilate or throw a tantrum or go off the handle. Getting pulled over for speeding is a molehill. It’s something you caused by speeding. It happens every day. It’s not going to ruin your life. It’s just a costly bump in the day. Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill and you will get on with your day much more quickly and have a better day when it’s all said and done.

Most of the things that come in our lives are molehills. Don’t make mountains out of molehills in your mind and don’t overreact to the small things that happen in your life.
