How The Quest For Personal Mastery Touches On Positive Affirmations

I’m currently taking a course called The Quest For Personal Mastery. It’s offered through Mindvalley and created by Srikumar Rao. I’m on day 25 of 45, and it’s been one of the most thought-provoking courses I’ve taken from Mindvalley. So far, the lessons have taught me about going with the flow in life, how to be happier and more fulfilled, and how to not be taken down by setbacks or upsets. Srikumar Rao approaches the topic of positive affirmations on Day 14. I think you will find his lesson interesting and useful.

What Srikumar Rao Says In The Personal Mastery Quest About Affirmations

The lesson is titled ‘Affirmations Can Hurt You. Here’s How To Use Them Effectively.’ Srikumar Rao says that if you come from a place of desperation and neediness, then affirmations can do more harm than good.

For instance, if you tell yourself, “I will be out of debt in one month,” but you believe that you can’t come up with the money to pay off your debt in one month and you think you might lose something important because of it, then you are coming from a place of desperation rather than belief, and that can cause you to become stressed out and even depressed knowing that it’s likely not going to happen.

That’s why Srikumar Rao says that you should not create outcome affirmations, but, instead, create action affirmations. When you create affirmations that are action-orientated, you can make your way towards the outcome that you want to see happen.

For instance, instead of saying, “I will be out of debt in one month,” you can come up with an action plan that has the potential to get you out of debt within a month. You may affirm things like, “I will work longer hours,” or “I will take on an extra job that I know I can get,” or ” I will save an extra $200 a week by cutting down on my groceries.” The point is to make affirmations that are action-orientated that you believe can help you get out of debt.

I’m Glad Srikumar Rao Talked About This

A lot of people say that affirmations need to be ‘I am’ statements, but I’ve never bought into that theory. I simply can’t tell myself “I am muscular” when I am not. No matter how badly I would like to have muscle on me, I know that the affirmation is not true and it just makes me get upset with that fact when I look in the mirror.

That’s why you will find all of the articles on Positive Affirmations 101 come with affirmations and reasons to back up those affirmations. It’s important to know why you should affirm certain things to yourself – how true they are and how they can help you get the desired outcome.

And, a lot of the affirmations are action-orientated already because I believe that it’s important to affirm habits that will help you get what you want.

For instance, on the 10 Affirmations To Help You Stop Overeating article, you will find affirmations like “I seek encouragement from like-minded people,” and, “I consciously keep food I overeat out of my house,” and, “I only eat when I’m hungry.” These are all action-orientated affirmations that you can say to yourself over and over again to remind yourself of what you need to do to get to where you want to be.

That’s just one of many insights you will gain from the Personal Mastery quest and Srikumar Rao. If you are interested in being more resilient in life – moving through obstacles faster and feeling happier despite what’s happening, I highly recommend checking out Srikumar Rao’s free masterclass or checking out his quest on Mindvalley.
