If you feel too much sadness, and you lose interest in the things that you were normally passionate about, then you are probably going through depression. It could be because of a failure, loss of a loved one, or an illness. If this situation is not dealt with properly, this could lead you to destructive situations like negative habits or being suicidal.

Depression may make you feel that your life is worthless. However, regardless of this feeling, you actually have many reasons to keep holding on.

If you feel depressed and suicidal, please keep on reading and be reminded of why you should continue living.

1. God loves you.
The fact that you are still alive is an assurance that God still loves you. You were born with a gift of life—a wonderful gift given by God to all of us. There is a reason why He allows you to experience what you go through at the moment. Just call on Him and trust that He is at work in your situation. His promise says, He will never leave nor forsake you.

2. Your family loves you.
If you let depression overcome you, you are not the only one affected. Your family is also. Imagine how they would feel if you harm yourself or they see you miserable. Just like how you do not want to see your loved ones suffering, they do not want this to happen to you as well.

3. This too shall pass.
Nothing is permanent in this world, including your pain. Time heals all wounds, so as long as you do not give up, the time will come when this situation will be over. If you do not give up now, you will arrive at that moment.

4. You have a lot to be thankful for.
Look around you. There are still many good things that you must be grateful for. Some could be simple like the air you breathe and that you get to eat three times a day. You can also count your family members and friends who continue to support you as among your best blessings in life.

5. There is a rainbow after the rain.
Always think positively. Do not focus on how dark your world seems to be now. Look forward to the day when you finally overcome this depression and face a bright future.

6. Set mind over matter.
Do not allow depression to control you. Remind yourself that your will is stronger than the chemical or hormonal imbalance that affects your emotions. You need to strengthen your mind and use its power to direct your actions so that you can function productively even when you do not feel like moving.

7. Other people have bigger problems than you.
When you are depressed, you get this detrimental thought that you are pitiful and your situation is hopeless. However, if you would see things from a bird’s-eye view, you could see that your problems could be actually lighter compared to the weights others are carrying.

8. There is hope as long as you live.
Waking up each morning is a cue for another chance to fix your life and start anew. Again, the keyword is positivity. You have to be optimistic that you can get out of your situation and live a productive life again.

9. You can do so much more with your life.
Do not be bound by your past failures. Humans are naturally imperfect, so we all experience failures. You are equipped with the skills and abilities that you can use to do things that can remind your value. Continue to pursue your dreams and strive for success by utilizing these gifts of capabilities God has blessed you with.

10. There are countless opportunities ahead of you.
Since you are still capable of doing many things, you can still find opportunities to do something productive with your life. Just be patient in waiting and searching. Give your best too in everything you do, so that these second-chances will not be wasted.

11. Your experience can encourage others who go through the same situation.
Find encouragement in the idea that this experience of yours can be used by God to inspire others who face the same challenge. He wants you to be a fighter and overcomer so that those who have a weaker will can find hope and be assured that they can win over depression too.

12. This can make you or break you—it is up to you.
At the end of this battle, there are only two possible outcomes: either you will be victorious or defeated. The choice is up to you. You may fight to overcome depression and be stronger afterward. Or you may wallow in self-pity, and allow it to make you do self-destructive stuff like substance abuse and alcoholism.

13. This will make you stronger.
I repeat, what does not break you can make you stronger. Learn from the lessons throughout this dark journey, then use them to be tougher next time. You will be thankful to have gone through this ordeal because you become less vulnerable in the future.

14. Quitter never wins.
If you quit now, you will never win. Rest for a minute or two if you are tired, but never stop in this race. Crawl, if you may, as long as it will get you to the finish line.

15. You have a purpose.
You were created for a purpose. Your existence is not an accident. Every detail of your life is designed so you can fulfill that purpose. Also, each experience God allows you to go through is meant to mold you to reach your highest potentials. So, do not give up, and instead, call to the One who created you. Ask Him for wisdom, so you will understand how your situation can help you fulfill your purpose.

Be a conqueror
You still have many reasons to live. Think of your loved ones. Think of your dreams and purpose. Do you really want to give up on them? Do not let depression rob you of your life. Fight and defeat it.
