In love, you shouldn’t settle for someone who takes you for granted and treats you like you’re only an option. You deserve so much more than that. You need to be with someone who doesn’t only call you when they need something.
In a relationship, it should be a give and take situation wherein if you make him your priority, he should also do the same to you. So if ever you are in this dilemma right now, here are 10 ways to make your boyfriend treat you like a priority:
1. Know your worth.
You need to know what you truly deserve and that is, to be cared for, valued, and loved by your partner. Always remember that you are special. You are an amazing human being and that, you value yourself. Do not let your boyfriend keep making you feel that you’re not that important. As a matter of fact, he is lucky to have you, so he should learn to treasure you just as how you treasure him.

2. Trust your gut.
Do not hesitate to tell him how you feel like you’re being taken for granted. He shouldn’t be the only one who should feel secure in your relationship. If you feel neglected, just tell him frankly. That way he will instantly know how you are feeling and will try his best to make it up to you. If he really loves you, he will do what it takes for you to feel important.
3. Refrain from being too tolerant.
If you think you’re being too tolerant of his actions, try limiting it. You shouldn’t always say yes to everything he says. He wouldn’t know what he’s doing wrong if you keep on tolerating his actions. He will always do whatever he wants and will make it easier for him to see your worth and importance. Know when to limit yourself and to stand your ground.
4. Act what you feel.
Actions really speak louder than words. If you feel that you are being taken for granted, and you have already told him about it, act what you are feeling. Most of the time telling him about what you feel is not enough. Show him that he’s not doing anything to make you feel like you are a priority in his life. Try distancing yourself from him, this will make him long for you.
5. Let him learn how to compromise.
When there’s an instance that you are going out with him, do not just agree on the time that is only agreeable on his terms. You should be able to go on dates and hang out on days where both of your schedules are free. Let him know that both of you need to learn how to compromise. You should not be the only one who needs to adjust, because you deserve better treatment than what he’s doing.
6. Show him how independent you are.
Let him see how you are strong and independent as a person without relying on him. Always remember that you are fine before you were with him and that you are still like that. Don’t wrap yourself in the idea that you can’t do anything without him. You are a strong and independent woman. Do the things that you usually do alone, like eating or watching a movie alone. This will also make you realize that he’s not the only thing that energizes and motivates you to do things.

7. Spend more time with your friends and family.
Spending more time with them will help you feel refreshed. Always know that those people are going to be there through thick and thin. Those are the people who know your worth. When all else fails, they will be there as a shoulder to cry on and the people who will comfort you when you feel so down. Appreciate them more by hanging out with them often. This will also make him see that you are having fun with your friends and family. Show him that your happiness does not depend on his presence alone.
8. Give him an ultimatum.
We all have our limitations. If you’ve exhausted all efforts and ways to let him know what he’s making you feel and he is not doing anything about it, tell him straight to the point that you are not staying in that toxic relationship. He needs to learn that he doesn’t always get what he wants and being in a relationship takes work and effort to keep it going.
9. Be prepared for the worst.
When that ultimatum comes and nothing has changed. Be prepared for the worst-case scenario, and that is to let go of that relationship. I think that all of us deserve a chance at something but if it’s the same problem over and over again I don’t think that’s fair for you. You are a person who is worthy of being loved and prioritized. Do not let a single person ruin that thought of you.
10. Take it as a lesson.
They say that experience is the best teacher, and if you have been in this relationship and you have learned to let that person go take this as a lesson for you once you enter into another relationship. Remember all those things he has done and always bear in mind that you will not let anyone ever treat you like an option ever again.
Most of the time, you can say you do not have to make an effort to make people see your worth. But when you are in a relationship that doesn’t see your worth, you don’t just quit without trying to put up a fight. If he’s starting to fail to see your importance, help him realize how lucky he is to have you in his life. If he doesn’t do anything about it, learn to let go and move on. You will meet a person who will cherish and treasure you more than he did. You don’t have to waste your time with someone who does not know how to prioritize you.
