What Does Bible Say About Farming

The Bible offers plenty of guidance when it comes to farming. It is seen as a way of life, and God’s people were always encouraged to make the most out of their land. In Deuteronomy 8:7-10 we read, “For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with streams and pools of water, with springs flowing in the valleys and hills; a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey; a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing…” These words show us that God wants us to enjoy our time on this earth by using what He has provided us- including our farms’ bounty. The Bible also teaches us to be wise stewards of all we have, including the land, and to treat it respectfully.

In Leviticus 25:2-5 we read, “When you enter the land I am going to give you, the land itself must observe a Sabbath to the Lord…you are not allowed to sow your fields or prune your vineyards.” This passage reminds us that even as farmers, we should take time off from our work and dedicate it to God and rest.

Finally, Proverbs 12:11 reads, “Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense,” – reminding us of the importance of hard work when it comes to farming. The Bible tells us that hard work and being mindful of the bounty we have been given will lead to a successful harvest.

From these passages in the Bible, it’s clear that God wants us to be mindful and responsible stewards of our land and resources. He encourages us to make the most of what He has provided for us, while also taking time out for rest to honor Him. With this guidance from God, we can feel confident that farming is something that honors Him and brings about good things in our lives.

Clearly, farming and agriculture have a special place in God’s plan for mankind. Taking care of the land and working it responsibly is one way to honor Him and bring blessings into our lives. As we continue to steward the land well, may we remember that cultivating the soil keeps us closer to God’s heart!
