One definition of understanding is “to see the truth of a statement.” In regards to God, this would mean understanding that He exists and that He is who He says He is. It also means understanding His character and what He desires for us. When we understand these things, we are better able to align our lives with Him and experience His blessings.

Another definition of understanding is “to have empathy or knowledge of someone’s situation.” In regards to God, this would mean recognizing that He knows everything about us – our thoughts, our feelings, our past, our present, and our future. He knows us better than we know ourselves and He loves us unconditionally. This understanding should lead us to humility and a desire to please Him in all that we do.

When we seek to understand God, we are seeking a deeper relationship with Him. We want to know Him more intimately and follow His will for our lives. As we grow in understanding, we also grow in our love for Him. And as we love Him more, we naturally desire to please Him in all that we do.

So ask yourself today, how well do you understand God? Do you seek to know Him more deeply? Or do you just go through the motions of your faith without really taking the time to get to know the One who saved you? Take some time today to pray and ask God to help you understand Him more. He is waiting to reveal Himself to you in new and wonderful ways.

Understanding is critical for our relationship with God because it helps us to know Him better and follow His will for our lives. If we don’t take the time to understand God, we will never fully be able to appreciate all that He has done for us or experience the fullness of His blessings. So let’s make a commitment to seek understanding today. It will be worth it, I promise!
