We can’t do everything on our own. That’s why outsourcing is such a good idea. But, sometimes we just need someone else to support us, encourage us, validate us, be there for us, help us get through tough times, and help us understand what we want and what we need to do. We need a teammate to help us get through the tough times and be there to celebrate the good times.
What Is A Teammate?
A teammate is someone who works with you or is an important part of your life.
It’s important to remember that a true teammate in life is working with you and not against you.
- You can have a teammate at work who works with you to get things done faster or better.
- You can also have a teammate at home who works with you to get things done faster or better.
- And you can have a teammate in life – someone who is there for you in every area of your life.
No matter what, a teammate is supposed to give you the physical, mental, or spiritual support you need to accomplish whatever it is you need to do. They won’t give up on you. They will, instead, encourage you to keep going with their words, actions, or companionship.
For example, your work teammate will help you stay motivated to get things done at work, and they will take part in getting things done. And a person you commit to for life – your lover, friend, or family member – will support you through all the experiences you have in life and encourage you through their words, actions, or companionship. They will always be on your team.
Why It’s Important To Have A Teammate For Productivity
If you have a desire to accomplish something, you need a teammate. You need someone who can help you, and you need someone who you can bounce ideas off and turn to when your confidence or motivation is wavering.
A teammate can offer things like:
- Emotional support – They can help you work through your fears, worries, and anxieties. This can reduce stress and help you be happier and more productive.
- New perspectives – They can help you see things in a different light so you can get unstuck from your current behaviors or thoughts that are holding you back from being productive.
- Communication – Give you the opportunity to get things off your chest, share your experiences, and work through problems, thus removing mental obstacles and making you more productive.
- Practical help – If you need help doing things, or you need money or other necessities to get you moving forward in life, a teammate can give you those things.
In short, a teammate can help you be more productive in every area of your life. They can help you achieve things at work, home, in your relationships, and in your spiritual life.
Don’t Take On The Wrong Teammate
The wrong teammate will drag you down and reduce your productivity.
The wrong teammate is someone who:
- Doesn’t communicate with you properly.
- Makes you feel bad, sad, or anxious.
- Puts you down.
- Doesn’t support your dreams and goals in life.
- Don’t help you when you need help.
- Is more concerned about themselves than you as a team.
- Keeps you stuck in behaviors or beliefs that are not serving you and moving you forward.
How Many Teammates Do You Need?
It’s important that you have at least one close teammate in your life. A spouse, friend, or family member who is a big part of your life and is always there for you can be the only person you need in life.
Research has shown that having many close people in your life may not be any more beneficial than having one or two people to depend on. One person can work with you and be there for you in all areas of life.
It’s More About Quality Than Quantity
The fact is that you can have 10 close people in your life, but if they are all the wrong types of people – the people who drag you down or make you feel bad – then they will have a negative impact on your life.
That’s why people who are married, but who are in unhappy relationships, are known to have more health problems like depression. A bad relationship does the opposite of what having a good teammate in life does.
So, be picky about who you team up with in life. If someone constantly nags you, drags you down, or makes you feel bad, then take action to fix that relationship or remove yourself from it. Your happiness and productivity in life depend on it.
For instance, I had a friend of 15 years who was selfish and destructive. We did a lot of destructive things together – partying, complaining, being financially irresponsible, and talking ourselves into staying in a job that we hated. I was so involved with this friend – and so connected to her energy – that I was neglecting my own life and feeling bad about myself every step of the way. When I finally decided to end the relationship, I was able to turn my focus onto myself and what I really wanted out of life. I quit the destructive habits and started working on my personal development with a vengeance.
Wasting 15 years with the wrong teammate is a tough reality to swallow. But it’s better than wasting 15 years and one day!
Find Yourself A Teammate
You may already have someone (or a few people) in your life who are teammates. If you do, make sure to value those relationships and nurture them. Put them at the top of your priority list. They are essential to your happiness and productivity.
If you don’t have a trusted teammate yet, then look for one. Just like everything else, finding a good teammate requires action on your part. But, it’s worth the effort.
If you are stuck in a bunch of relationships that are dragging you down instead of lifting you up, you may want to re-evaluate those relationships. You need to fix them or leave them.
I’ve left many relationships that weren’t serving me anymore, and I can testify to how much more productive you can be in life when you let go of them.
