No one can follow Christ on their own effort. It takes God’s grace for Christians to continue walking in faith and pursue the Lord’s assignment for them. Yes, anyone who is already in Christ is chosen by God to be part of His mission.

However, as Jesus said, not everyone who calls Him Lord is truly chosen (Matthew 7:21). There are even some who involve themselves in ministries but later on leave the faith.

If you want to find out if God really chooses you to serve Him and be with Him in eternity, check out the following signs:

Assurance of Salvation

1. You Understand the Sacrifice of Christ on the Cross.

Most people know that Jesus died on the cross, but only a few understand its purpose. This truth is hidden from those who claim to have higher intellects than others. It is only the Holy Spirit who can open a person’s mind.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)

2. You Accept God’s Free Gift of Salvation.

Just like in no. 1, many find it hard to accept that salvation is freely given through Christ Jesus. Therefore, if you have fully put your trust in Him to be your Lord and Savior, you are definitely chosen.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

3. You Understand that It is Only Through Faith that You are Saved.

Moreover, it is clear to you that your salvation is not by any of your efforts. It is solely by God’s grace, and you receive it through faith.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

4. You are Sure that Nothing Can Separate You from the Love of God.

Once you are truly saved and chosen to be part of God’s people, you are certain that nothing can take you away from God’s love.

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Transformation

5. You Turn Away from Your Sins Completely.

True salvation is characterized by repentance, which results in complete transformation. You become firm in turning away from your usual temptations to sin.

“No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.” (1 John 3:6)

6. You Develop the Traits of Christlikeness.

Once you have put your trust in Christ, the Holy Spirit will work in you. Then, gradually, your character changes until your being reflect Christlikeness.

“For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;” (Romans 8:29)

7. Your Mind is Transformed to Have an Eternal Outlook.

The Holy Spirit will also help you renew the way you think. You will begin to focus more on things with eternal value.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)

8. You Have Compassion for the Lost.

Jesus Christ was compassionate to people when He was on earth. The Holy Spirit will develop the same compassion in you, so you will be compelled to reach out to the lost. That is your mission.

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’” (Matthew 9:35-38)

Sense of Calling

9. You Understand that You Live for Christ.

If you are chosen by God, your sense of purpose changes eventually. Understanding that Christ died for humanity, you no longer want to live for yourself. Instead, you commit to living for Christ and even dying for Him, if necessary.

“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21)

10. You Discover Your Spiritual Gifts.

Every person God has chosen for His plans receives spiritual gifts. These gifts can help you fulfill your calling and serve God through serving people.

“Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery.” (1 Timothy 4:14)

11. You Have a Desire to Serve God through a Specific Ministry.

Once you have discovered your spiritual gifts, you begin to desire to use them through a ministry.

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)

12. You are Equipped in the Great Commission.

Of course, God will also equip you to participate in the Great Commission—and that is to preach the gospel to the lost and disciple others to do the same.

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” (Matthew 28:18-20)

13. You are Effective in Your Ministry.

And once you are part of the ministry where God intends you to be, you will be effective in it. God will bless the works of your hands, and others will be blessed through you. People will be encouraged and changed through that ministry.

“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.” (Psalm 90:17)

14. You Remain in Faith Despite Hardships in Following Christ.

Being Christ’s follower is not easy. The more God uses you, the more the enemy will try to stop you. However, if you are really chosen by God, you will continue in faith despite all the discouragements.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)

Divine Favor

15. Your Experience Trials that Result in Blessings.

Another sign that you are chosen is how God turns your troubles into something beneficial. God will destroy the enemy’s schemes to harm you. Instead, he will use them to strengthen and bless you.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

16. Your Life Becomes a Living Testimony of God’s Goodness.

Since your faith is alive, you will receive answered prayers and see God’s miracles. Your life itself will be a testimony of the Lord’s faithfulness.

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” (Psalm 34:8)

17. You Have that Aura that Draws People to You and God.

A person chosen by God has that charisma that attracts people. Actually, it is the reflection of Christ, the glory of God, evident in their lives that others see. That is why people are drawn to them.

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Evaluate Your Walk with Christ

How about you? Can you say that you are chosen by God? The fact that you are here means that the Lord has put that desire in your heart. So, yes, you could be among His chosen people. What you need to do now is surrender your life to Christ and follow Him. Eventually, God will reveal His calling for you.
