Photo by Emma BausoTo have a happy and long-lasting marriage, the husband and wife must love each other. This love should not only be expressed through words and promises but through consistent actions. This love must also be genuine and help the couple grow emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. But how can we give such kind of love? How can we ensure that we are loving our own spouse the way it should be?
To gain confidence in the kind of love you practice in your marriage, the scriptures can be your great guide to make sure you are doing it right. In my previous article, I shared 20 biblical ways on how to love your wife. In this article, it’s time for the wives to learn how to love their own husbands according to the words and teachings of God.
Here are 18 ways to love your husband according to the Bible:
1. Respect your husband.
“However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.” – Ephesians 5:33 ESV
2. Fulfill your marital duties to him.
“The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.” – 1 Corinthians 7:3 NIV
3. Be trustworthy.
“The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her so that he shall have no need of spoil.” – Proverbs 31:11 KJV
4. Be praiseworthy.
“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her” – Proverbs 31:28 KJV
5. Be always kind to your husband.
“She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.” – Proverbs 31:12 KJV
6. Take care of your home.
“She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.” – Proverbs 31:13-15 KJV
7. Protect your home.
“She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.” – Proverbs 31:21 KJV
8. Preserve your dignity for him.
“Strength and honor are her clothing, and she shall rejoice in time to come.” – Proverbs 31:25 KJV
9. Be a wise woman and inspire kindness to your husband and children.
“She openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness.” – Proverbs 31:26 KJV
10. Do not be a lazy wife.
“She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.” – Proverbs 31:27 KJV
11. Do not put him to shame.
“A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.” – Proverbs 12:4 KJV
12. Stop nagging and avoid petty fights.
“It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.” – Proverbs 25:24 ESV
13. Do not let your hatred continue for another day.
“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:” – Ephesians 4:26 KJV
14. Talk and act with care. Always think of the future consequences.
“House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the Lord.” – Proverbs 19:14 KJV
15. Surrender your body to your husband. Do not cheat.
“The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife.” – 1 Corinthians 7:4 NIV
16. Give him the opportunity and privilege to lead as a man.
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.” – Ephesians 5:22-23 KJV
17. Be a God-fearing person and bring him closer to God.
“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.” – Proverbs 31:30 KJV
18. Love him truly.
“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NKJV
