Being a woman after God’s own heart is the desire of every Christian lady. If this is in your heart now, pray that the Lord will guide you into being one.

Although you cannot be perfect while in this world, God honors the sincerity and effort of everyone who strives to follow Him. Therefore, do not give up on trying your best to be a woman who reflects Christ in her life.

You are in the right place if you want to please God with your life by being a Christlike lady. According to the Bible, here are some of the ways to be a good woman. Check them out:

More Than Physical Beauty

1. She Fears the Lord.

A good woman fears God, not because He is frightening or cruel, but because he is holy. Fearing the Lord means being reverent of Him–the King of kings.

“Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” (Proverbs 31:30)

2. She is Strong.

Another trait of a good woman is being strong. Although not all people are naturally tough, those women who take the courage to strengthen their hearts and minds are admirable.

“She girds herself with strength, and makes her arms strong.” (Proverbs 31:17)

3. She is Wise and Kind.

The Bible also applauds a wise woman. This is a lady who knows the right words in every situation, keeping peace with everyone without compromising their principles. She is also wise in her decisions and actions, glorifying God with her right judgments. Moreover, she encourages others to be kind.

“She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” (Proverbs 31:26)

4. She is Compassionate.

She is not just kind but compassionate as well. A good woman has compassion in action. She does not hesitate to help those who are in need.

“She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hands grasp the spindle. She extends her hand to the poor, and she stretches out her hands to the needy.” (Proverbs 31:19–20)

5. She is Industrious.

This is also a woman of diligence. She keeps her dignity up by earning money from the works of her hands. In short, she is not lazy and dependent on others to live.

“She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies belts to the tradesmen. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future. (Proverbs 31:24–25)

6. She is Excellent.

A good woman is an excellent person because of her noble character. She has integrity and discipline, plus she always gives her best in what she does.

“And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character.” (Ruth 3:11)

7. She Has Discretion.

She knows when to hold back. As mentioned in no. 3, this lady keeps the peace by thinking twice before saying anything. She is respectful and careful not to offend others. This does not mean that she is afraid to speak her thoughts, though. She is simply sensitive to the atmosphere of conversations and will avoid conflicts as much as possible.

“Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.” (Proverbs 11:22)

8. She is Gracious.

Of course, being a woman of dignity, she behaves graciously. She is courteous and kind to everyone. You cannot see her acting rudely, even to disrespectful people. It is not that she is helpless, but she simply avoids stooping to their level.

“A gracious woman attains honor, and ruthless men attain riches.” (Proverbs 11:16)

Housewife Material

9. She is Constantly Good to Her Husband.

As a wife, she treats her husband with love and goodness. Even if he is imperfect and has a lot of shortcomings, she does not think of harming him in any way. Instead of being bitter and unforgiving towards him, she prays for him to change.

“She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.” (Proverbs 31:12)

10. She is Prudent.

Talk about being a good family manager; a good woman is a prudent wife and mom. She is not reckless in spending money because she thinks of the future. Instead, she saves money to cater to unexpected or possible emergency needs.

“House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.” (Proverbs 19:4)

11. She is Trustworthy.

She is someone a husband can trust. This is a woman who is trustworthy in every sense. First, she is loyal and faithful to her husband. Her fear of the Lord will keep her from entertaining other men, even if they seem better than the husband. Second, she can be trusted with planning and taking care of household needs. Third, she will never betray her husband by gossiping about him to others.

“The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.” (Proverbs 31:11–12)

12. She Submits to Her Husband.

A good woman understands her role in the family according to God’s Word—and that is being a suitable helper to the husband. While her man represents Christ in the family, she symbolizes the church. For this reason, she obeys the Lord by being submissive to her husband. Take note, this does not make her less important than the man. They are equally loved by God, and they are equal in rights.

“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.” (Ephesians 5:22-24)

13. She is Practical.

Aside from being prudent, she is also practical. Instead of spending her money on clothes and other non-essentials, she chooses to use her income on profitable investments. It is not being materialistic but being a good steward of what the Lord has blessed her with.

“She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she plants a vineyard.” (Proverbs 31:16)

14. She Takes Care of the Household.

A good wife will take care of everyone in her family, even those working for them. She is willing to sacrifice her comfort, just like sleep, to make sure her family members are well-attended.

“She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.” (Proverbs 31:15)

15. She is Praised by Her Family.

Due to her noble character and being a responsible wife and mother, she is appreciated by her family. Both her husband and kids cherish her out of love, gratitude, and admiration. They are proud of her!

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’” (Proverbs 31:28-29)

You Can Be One

It may be hard to apply all of these, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, you can gradually change to be a good woman according to biblical standards. Start by humbling yourself before the Lord, repenting from your old ways. Then, ask Him to guide you each day until you have learned the abovementioned traits. Of course, above all else, strive to keep your heart pure before Him.
