You are probably in a difficult situation that makes wonder if God has abandoned you. Maybe you have been hurt or wronged by people you trusted, and now you are seeking justice. Or probably you have committed a huge mistake and hurt others, and you think God is angry at you.

God may seem silent or absent in your life now. However, you are not the first time to ask if the Lord has abandoned them. Even in the Bible, there were stories in which God seemed to have let injustices prevailed, but in the end, He used the situations of His faithful servants to fulfill His glorious plans.

Consider how Joseph was betrayed by his brothers and accused of a crime he did not do. He had enough reasons to question God and grumble about injustice and abandonment. However, he remained faithful to the Lord. In the end, he was exalted to be the greatest man in Egypt, next only to the king. And through his position, God’s chosen people were saved from the famine that struck the land. (Genesis 37-47)

It is the same with you. You may not see God working directly in your situation now, but surely, He has not abandoned you. If you can relate to most or all of the following statements below, consider them signs that the Lord has not left your side.

1. You still wake up every morning.

The fact that you are still alive today should be enough to make you realize that God has not forgotten you. No matter how terrible yesterday was, what matters is you are given another chance to make things new. If God had truly abandoned you, He would not waste His time on you anymore.

2. You still have food on your table.

Have you been so worried about what would you eat for the day since you did not have a single penny left in your pocket? Then, suddenly, someone knocked on the door and you found your neighbor beaming with food in her hands. You may have a lot of problems now, or you are probably struggling financially, but if you can still eat, then God is still taking care of your needs.

Consider Luke 12:24, “Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!”

3. You have loved ones who support you.

One way God shows His care for a person He loves is by surrounding them with people who will support, encourage, and help them. No matter what you are going through right now, know that you are blessed if you still have family or good friends who stay by your side.

4. You and your family are safe and healthy.

Good health is the best blessing that you can ask for your family, right? With a lot of people losing their loved ones to the current health crisis, you should thank God for each day that you and your family are healthy, safe, and alive. Be grateful to God for protecting you and the people you love.

5. You still have a job or source of income.

Many people are currently jobless. If you are still earning—no matter how small your income is—be thankful for your job. How can you say God abandoned you when there are more people out there struggling to live a comfortable life?

6. You have a roof over your head.

If God hated you, He could have taken your home from you. He could have sent you to the street to experience sleeping in the cold. Therefore, consider yourself blessed if you can still comfortably sleep in a warm bed at night.

7. You find solutions to your problems.

The wisdom you have to solve your problems comes from the Lord. If you can manage to overcome every challenge that comes your way, it means that God is with you. He continues to help you even at times when you cannot feel Him.

8. You survive each day stronger.

Probably, the reason why you thought God has abandoned you is that He let you go through tough times. However, if those hard times have taught you important lessons and helped increase your endurance, then God had His good reasons. He knew all along that you would need these challenges to grow stronger.

9. You find in your heart to forgive those who hurt you.

As they say, “forgiveness is divine”. It is hard to forgive the people who offended you so much if you cannot feel God’s grace in your life. If you are constantly reminded of how God has forgiven you for your sins, it becomes easier to release forgiveness. The fact that you can still contemplate these means God is still at work in your heart.

10. You have hope for the future.

You may be in the dark now, but if you can see a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel, then there is hope. Moreover, you can only hope if you hold on to the faith that God is with you in the future. Meaning, if there is a conviction that God has prepared better days for you, it means He has not left you at all.

11. You receive new opportunities.

You still have the Lord’s favor if you keep encountering good opportunities. It means that He has not forgotten about you. He still blesses you with good things and wants you to grow into maturity to fulfill your purpose.

12. You are hungry for God’s presence.

A person abandoned by God would not have the desire to commune with Him. It is God who draws people to Himself. Therefore, if you are drawn to Him, then He still wants you. Even Jesus Christ confirmed this.

John 6:44 says, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.”

13. You are compelled to pray.

In connection to no. 12, you would not have the conviction or desire to pray if God had banished you already. If you have the urge to pray, it means that you are drawn to the Lord or the Holy Spirit is still within you.

1 Corinthians 6:19 says, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;”

14. You still have reasons to thank God for.

If you can still count your blessings, then obviously God is still with you. You still have His favor. It means He does not withhold good things from you. He still pours out His goodness upon your life.

15. You can find comfort in God’s Word.

Do you still read the Bible and get encouraged when you do so? If yes, the Lord is still with you. His Word still speaks to your spirit. Know that unbelievers cannot understand the Scriptures, and they think of believers foolish for reading the Bible.

Pursue God’s Grace

As long as you are breathing, do not lose hope in God’s love. Even if you have committed a mistake and you may struggling with its consequence now, please know that His anger will not last forever.

Psalm 103:8-9 says, “The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion. He will not always accuse us, nor harbor His anger forever.”

All you need to do is confess and repent of your sins. Ask forgiveness from the Lord and He will forgive you. He is gracious and merciful and will give you a second chance.
