What is the most important thing in a relationship?

Is it faith, honesty, loyalty, respect, romance, love or something else?

All of them are essential in a relationship, but I’m afraid the most important one isn’t found above.

Faith is powerful but it’s dead without actions.

Honesty is good but it’s unhealthy without kindness and righteousness.

Respect is important but it’s dull without happiness.

Romance is interesting but it’s weak without loyalty.

And lastly, love is great but it’s toxic if not pure and genuine.

So what is it that is the most important thing in a relationship?

What is that particular thing that can truly keep a relationship alive?

Among the things we mentioned above, no one can deny that it is LOVE which is the most powerful of them all.

But the one thing that can make any relationship alive, healthy, happy and long-lasting isn’t just mere love.

It’s something more than that – something bigger, greater and more powerful.

It’s not mere love, not even the fact that you are being loved.

But it’s the “TRUE LOVE YOU GIVE”.

You can be loved by your partner in a relationship, but would you be happy if you do not have a love for him or her?

As the following verse from the Bible says…

“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but does not have love, I am nothing.” – 1 Corinthians 13:2

Yes, without giving love we are nothing… no matter how many people are giving love to us.

Without giving love, our good qualities as a person collapse.

Because it is love that binds all our good virtues in perfect unity.

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” – Colossians 3:12-14

Without practicing love, our compassion, kindness, gentleness, patience, faithfulness, respect, honesty and other virtues won’t be united in perfect harmony.

It is only when we love that we become a complete person.

It is only when we love that we can completely transform into a better person and help our loved ones transform into better people too.

If you are in a relationship, what makes you feel pure joy or happiness?

Isn’t it when you realize that you’re in love?

Isn’t it when you give a special gift to your special someone and see her or him happy with that?

The truth is, you can be happier seeing the smiles of your loved ones than seeing your own smile.

Whatever sacrifices you are making, no matter how big the things you are giving up, when you’re truly in love, you don’t get tired, you don’t get sad, but rather you live a life with joy in your heart.

No matter how much your partner loves you, no matter how much does she trust or respect you, if you don’t love her, you cannot be truly happy in a relationship.

Therefore, the most important thing in a relationship is the genuine love that you give.

When you give real love, you inspire love to others.

When you give true love, the relationship you create is pure.

You don’t have to be guilty no matter how hard life would be.

You don’t have to regret it even if you don’t get love in return.

When you give genuine love to your partner, you don’t lose a big thing.

Instead, you will gain something great, something that you will treasure for all your life.

As Elbert Hubbard once said, “The love we give away is the only love we keep.”

We enter into a relationship because we promise to give love a true and long-lasting love.

Without fulfilling that vow, what is the essence of your relationship?

Without giving true love, what good are you as a partner in that relationship?

Better not have a relationship than to have one without giving true love.

But if you want your relationship to really work, work hard for the real love that you have to give.
