Ted Talk Points: Power Of The Mind By Bridget Jane Long

The point of this Ted Talk is really that we all go through struggles and can overcome them with the power of the mind. Not only can we overcome them, but we can also thrive! Bridge Jane Long talks about how her kids were gone and she didn’t know where they were. She doesn’t explain how they disappeared in the TED talk, but she does say that it took her 5 years and lots of traveling to find her kids. This struggle is one that would turn many people bitter and angry, but she hasn’t let that happen. This talk is not very long, but you can find the 12 key points I took from it below the video.

Her Thoughts On The Power Of The Mind

  1. A thought is just a thought, and we choose our thoughts. We are masters of our thoughts.
  2. Duality teaches us hot and cold, in and out, good and evil… for her, it was blame or responsibility, victim or hero. She decided to use the power of the mind and choose to be the hero and be responsible for what she did, didn’t do, and how she reacted to what was done to her.
  3. Some people may have thought she was a bad mother, but what people think of her is none of her business.
  4. If it is to be, it’s up to me.
  5. When we are willing to change, we can build the new and not fight the old.
  6. Gratitude is the antidote to all feelings of lack. (What I know: Gratitude is a free power of the mind tool we all have at our disposal.)
  7. We must take control of ourselves, otherwise, the self will control us.
  8. She thought about what people would say about her at the end of her life. This vision pulled her towards excellence.
  9. Surround yourself with people who fan your flame.
  10. She talks about the power of journaling and how the strongest thought is weaker than the weakest ink.
  11. She’s had difficulties punctuated with joy. It’s important to tell yourself only good will come. She says that sometimes a gift is badly wrapped up and doesn’t seem appealing, but when do unwrap it truly is a gift.
  12. When we break through the barriers of fear and self-limiting beliefs, we can become the luminous human beings we were meant to be.
