You are probably wondering if God hears your prayers. Maybe, you have prayed about some things, but they seemed to have fallen to deaf ears. So, now you are asking if the Lord really listens to you.

Believe it or not, God does hear your prayers, and He answers them in His own way and timing. However, since He is all-knowing, He will not always say “yes” to all your petitions because of unseen reasons. It could be that what you are asking for could b dangerous for you in the future, or He could have a better plan.

If you are a believer of Jesus Christ, rest assured that God listens to you. Christ is the only mediator between humankind and God the Father. Therefore, if you are His follower, you can confidently approach God’s throne because you have an intercessor-slash-negotiator. Through His sacrifice on the cross, His believers are washed clean by His blood. Thus, they have become acceptable before God.

Hebrews 9:15 says,“For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”

If you are not yet convinced that God would listen to your prayers, continue to read below. Here are some of the reasons why He hears your prayers.

1. You are made righteous in Christ.

As mentioned above, Christ’s blood washed away all your sins. For this reason, God does not see your transgressions anymore. Instead, He sees His Son’s death—the ransom that has set you free from the guilt of sin. In short, through His grace, you can approach His throne and pray.

To make it clear, it is the righteousness of Christ that God sees in you. Even if you still fail from time to time, your righteousness cannot be taken away since it is not earned. It is freely given.

2. You have faith.

God is pleased with those who have great faith in Him. Therefore, if you believe so much in His love, mercy, and power, the Lord will not fail you. Therefore, continue to trust Him—never doubt—and see how He would surprise you with answers to your prayers that are even beyond what you ask for. Just remain in faith. He is an excellent rewarded!

It says in Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

3. You ask according to God’s will.

To clarify things, God does not always answer prayers with a “yes”. He only grants it to petitions that are clearly according to His will. If wondering what they are, it means you should read the Bible. For you to know His commands, it is important to study His Word.

1 John 5:14-15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

4. You have the right motive.

If you have the right motive for praying for something, God will surely listen to you. The Lord sees your heart, and if He knows your intentions are not selfish, He has no reason to turn you down. Unless your prayer is not according to His will or plan for you, He will surely give you what you ask for.

So, what are the examples that your prayer motive is wrong? For instance, you could be asking God to make you a millionaire because you want to prove to yourself to those you have a conflict with. Or you could be asking God to give you a partner because you envy your friends.

5. You seek to glorify God.

One sign that you have the right motive for your prayer is your desire to glorify God. If your prayer is within God’s will and it will contribute to the advancement of the gospel, the Lord will most likely give you what you ask.

An example of this would be asking God to help pass the licensure examination for teachers because you want to be a teacher-missionary. Or you could ask God to help you become a doctor so you can help heal the sick through science and spiritual encouragement.

6. You are asking for a need.

God cares about your needs. Actually, even if you do not ask from Him, He will automatically provide for what you need. Just like how He feeds the animals, He will not forsake the necessities of those who follow and trust Him.

Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

7. You are brokenhearted.

There are people who find it hard to talk to God when they are in pain. Some even blame Him for what they go through. However, contrary to others’ belief that God does not care about hurting people, He is actually near them. The Lord is compassionate to the brokenhearted, and He listens to their prayers.

It says in Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

8. You are not only asking for yourself.

The Lord also listens to the prayers of unselfish people. Just like how He honors those who have the right motives when asking for something, He is also pleased with His selfless children.  If He hears them when asking for their needs, how much more if they ask for the needs of others?

God wants His children to be compassionate and kind to one another. He likes it when they love each other genuinely that they put the needs of others first before theirs.

9. You obey His commands.

God also promises to listen to the prayers of those who follow His commands. Why not? With obedience to the Lord comes blessings. Of course, this will include answering their prayers. Since people who know the Lord’s commands would not ask for something outside His will, it is almost an assurance that they will get what they pray for.

John 15:7 says, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

10. You are humble.

The Lord is drawn to His people when they humble themselves before Him. Therefore, if you know in your heart that you present your requests to God with humility, believe that He hears you. Being humble means acknowledging that you are weak on your own, and it is God’s grace that enables you to do things. Moreover, God assures healing His people’s land if they repent, humble themselves, and turn from their wicked ways to follow Him.

2 Chronicles 7:14 states, “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
