Do you feel like your passion for God has recently been lukewarm? Are you hungry for more of His presence? Do you want to get closer to the Lord?

If you want to improve your relationship with God, you must discipline yourself and focus on Him. You cannot love the Lord and the world at the same time. Therefore, choosing God means you will give up your worldly desires and commit to following Christ’s ways.

To help you start with your spiritual revival, here are some effective ways that help you have more passion for God.

1. Remember God’s grace in your life.

Nothing can ignite your passion for the Lord more than the realization of His grace. You have been a sinner all your life, yet He has saved you from damnation by sacrificing His Son Jesus Christ to pay for all your sins.

Romans 5:8 says, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

2. Repent from your sins and ask God to help you overcome them.

If you have already received the gift of salvation offered by Christ, it is important to repent from your sins. Repentance is not measured by how much you cry but by the transformation of your character. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you overcome your habitual sins and change for the better.

3. Recommit yourself to the Lord.

Have you been a Christian for a long time, but you lost your passion along the way? If you want to serve God again, start anew by recommitting yourself to Christ. Ask forgiveness and decide to turn your back on your worldly habits. Then, pray to God to help you get closer with Him again, and this time never fails.

4. Establish an active prayer life.

Regularly talking to God and interceding for others can help ignite your spiritual passion. Therefore, make it a habit to pray every day. You can also keep a prayer journal to list down what you need to pray for.

5. Read the Bible every day and keep a journal.

Aside from prayer, studying God’s Word is also crucial in your relationship with Him. If you want to know God more, then you need to find out what pleases Him and not. You will only know about His will if you carefully study the Bible. Moreover, it is advisable to keep a devotion journal to write down and reflect on the Scripture you read for the day.

6. Create a gratitude journal and list down the blessings you receive.

Recognizing and thanking God for His blessings can help you be more passionate for Him too. To count your blessings, create a gratitude journal in which you can write down the provision and other good things you receive daily. Then, do not forget to thank God for them at the end of the day.

7. Appreciate the life God has given you.

Another way to be more passionate for the Lord is by appreciating your existence. You may not be perfect, but He has undoubtedly made you unique and valuable. Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

8. Regularly attend church activities.

Fellowshipping with other believers is also essential in your spiritual growth. Therefore, commit yourself to a local church and actively participate in its activities. Do not miss worship services, attend prayer meetings, and join a small group.

9. Join a Bible study group.

In connection to no. 8, you must be part of a small group that helps the members study and understand the Bible. Doing so will help you increase your knowledge about God’s will. Plus, it will help you get closer to your churchmates.

10. Use your talents and spiritual gifts in the ministry.

If you want to be on fire for the Lord, decide to serve Him. Find out how you can help the ministries in your church. Use your talents and discover your spiritual gifts. Moreover, you should ask God which ministry He wants you to be part of.

11. Listen to sermons.

Do not wait for Sundays just to hear sermons. With the availability of the internet, you can now access a series of preaching from other churches. Just be careful in selecting what you listen to. Choose preachers who are known to base their sermons on biblical truths or sound theology.

1 John 4:1 says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

12. Sing worship songs to God in your private moments.

During your devotion or Quiet Time with the Lord, take the opportunity to sing beautiful songs to Him. It is not about how beautiful your singing voice is, but your heart is what matters. This is only one of the ways to express your adoration for God.

13. Surround yourself with Christian friends.

To increase your passion, be surrounded by people who also love God. Be best friends with your small group or ministry colleagues. Having spiritually mature friends will help you be mature yourself.

14. Serve and help people.

The best way to serve God is by serving others. Since you cannot serve Christ physically, just do it to His people. Help whenever you can and serve instead of waiting to be served.

Matthew 25:40 says, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

15. Attend conferences or retreats.

There are Christian conferences and retreats that aim to encourage believers to be more passionate about God. If your church conducts such activities, be part of them. You can also attend those organized by other churches as long as they are open to outsiders. But, again, be careful in choosing the events to attend. Beware of the false prophets. To be sure, you can ask for advice from your pastor or church leaders.

16. Enroll in leadership classes at church.

Most churches provide training for their members. They open classes to train members to evangelize and disciple new believers. Do not let go of such an opportunity to grow. Be part of such classes.

17. Strive to apply God’s Word in your life.

If you are serious about improving your relationship with God, you should be serious about applying His Word too. Overcome sins by obeying God’s commands in every area of your life. This is not easy to accomplish, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, your life will gradually transform.

18. Forgive and be at peace with everyone.

One of the passion killers in Christians is unforgiveness. You cannot fully enjoy God’s presence if you have hatred and bitterness against people. In his book, The Bait of Satan, John Bevere even calls offense a deadly trap for believers. Therefore, decide to forgive those who have offended you and reconcile with them.

19. Share the gospel with people who do not know God.

Be courageous in sharing the Good News about Christ with people who have no personal relationship with Him yet. As you continue to proclaim His goodness and grace, your own faith will be strengthened.

20. Dedicate your life to living for Christ.

The best way to increase your passion for God is to commit yourself to it. Surrender yourself to God and decide to live for Christ daily. Galatians 2:20 summarizes it best,

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Best Decision Ever

Dedicating your life to God is the best decision you would ever make. It does not guarantee freedom from troubles, but He will surely be with you in everything. What matters most is the eternal safety that you have with Him. This life is temporary, but your eternal life is secure if you are in Christ.
